Quels sont les différents types de stérilets disponibles?

Qu’est-ce qu’un stérilet?

Il s’agit d’un dispositif en forme de T qui est inséré dans l’utérus pour agir comme méthode de contraception réversible à action prolongée (LARC). Le dispositif peut contenir du cuivre ou du lévonorgestrel.

Stérilet au cuivre ou DIU (dispositif intra-utérin) : Le dispositif contient du cuivre. C’est une méthode contraceptive sans hormone.

Stérilet à hormone ou SIU (système intra-utérin) : Le dispositif contient une hormone appelée lévonorgestrel.

Qu’est-ce que l’implant contraceptif ?

L’implant contraceptif est utilisé dans des pays à travers le monde depuis de nombreuses années, mais il a fait son entrée au Canada en 2020. Il s’agit d’un petit bâtonnet en plastique souple qui s’insère juste sous la peau et libère lentement une petite quantité d’hormone progestative.

Cela empêche les ovaires de libérer un ovule chaque mois (ovulation) et épaissit également le mucus du col de l’utérus (partie inférieure de l’utérus), ce qui rend plus difficile pour les spermatozoïdes d’atteindre l’ovule dans l’utérus.

Un prestataire de soins de santé effectue une petite intervention pour placer l’implant dans votre bras – cela ne prend que quelques minutes ! L’implant est alors efficace pour prévenir une grossesse pendant une période pouvant aller jusqu’à 3 ans.

NOTRE MISSION

Identifier et développer un réseau canadien de Centres d’excellence pour l’accès rapide à la contraception intra-utérine (CEACI) qui offrent des soins de qualité, une approche collaborative et un meilleur accès aux stérilets et aux implants.

NOTRE ÉQUIPE

Le service CEACI a été établi en réponse à un besoin identifié par le Réseau canadien pour la contraception intra-utérine (RCCI). Établi en 2015, le RCCI regroupe 8 experts canadiens en contraception intra-utérine qui se sont engagés à aider les femmes à obtenir leur méthode de contraception optimale afin qu’elles puissent définir et répondre à leurs besoins en matière de santé reproductive.
